Man Vs Food - Finally a Show About Food Worth Watching
For those of you who don't know Man v. Food is a kick ass American food television series. The program is hosted by actor and food enthusiast Adam Richman. In each episode, Richman explores the "big food" offerings of a different American city before facing off against a pre-existing eating challenge at a local restaurant. I think this is one of the greatest TV shows of our time – this guy has gleefully ploughed his way through culinary monstrosities like a seven-pound burrito, a metre-long bratwurst, and a 12-patty cheeseburger without even breaking a sweat.
Slowly, by word of mouth, this television series has blossomed into something of a cultural touchstone for our generation. The premise is disarmingly simple: one man travels around various American pig-out spots – the kind of fast and dirty eateries where you're given a free T-shirt if you can eat an entire cow in an hour – and essentially eats everything in sight. Early episodes saw him take on a burger as big as a bar stool cushion, eating 180 oysters, a pile of violently hot chicken wings, and two gallons of ice cream. Sadly we don't get this on local television but the good news is that most of the episodes have been uploaded onto Youtube. Check out one of my favourite episodes below.
