Adopt a Chop for Charity
Braai lovers can support fellow South Africans on Heritage Day, Monday, 24 September, by taking part in the Savanna Adopt a Chop initiative on the Savanna Facebook page. Savanna will donate one ton of meat and another ton of rice and vegetables to FoodBank, a non-profit organisation that distributes food to NGO’s nationwide. With Savanna’s donation, FoodBank will ensure that many South Africans in need will also be able to enjoy National Braai Day with a balanced meal this year.
Savanna, true to their quirky nature and off the wall personality were moved by the plight of forgotten chops across the county. Quirk Digital Agency, creator of the Adopt a Chop campaign explained the reasoning behind the initiative,
“A braai staple, chops aren’t just pieces of meat … they also have dreams. On National Braai Day, Savanna wanted South Africans to spare a thought for the less fortunate and help feed those in need.”
Sarah Manners from Quirk explains: “Housed on Savanna’s Facebook page,we created the Adopt a Chop initiative to give these chops their five seconds of fame and spread the word about the important role they have to play.”
Come Braai Day, once the poster chops all have homes, Savanna will deliver one ton of meat and one ton of rice and vegetables to FoodBank to ensure that many South Africans in need will enjoy this coming National Braai Day. By adopting a chop on Savanna’s Facebook page, South Africans will be able to watch their chops go through the motions of marinade, grilling and finally become a meal to someone in need.
To celebrate the grilling of the meat, South Africans are invited to Hamilton’s Rugby Club in Green Point on Monday, 24 September with Savanna on their big day out, to braai some tasty chops which once cooked will be handed over to FoodBank SA. With performances on the day by some of South Africa’s best musical acts – Die Heuwels Fantasties,Jack Parow, Mi Casa, Bed on Bricks, and Me and Mr Brown – and ice-cold Savanna of course, it is set to be a great day out.
