24-hour porn channel in SA in Jan

Cape Town - A new 24-hour sex channel will be available on satellite TV from January 2012 – and there's nothing South African authorities can do to prevent it.

The channel, which offers hardcore pornography aimed at heterosexual viewers, will be broadcast on the Astra 4A satellite – the same satellite used by TopTV.

John Solomon of African Satellite Installations (ASI) has said his company will hire out the special decoders and smartcards needed to view the channel at a cost of R99 per month.

The decoders are only for hire and remain the property of the satellite company.

ASI has already ordered 5000 decoders ahead of Porn Satellite TV – or PSat - arriving in South Africa in January.

The adult entertainment channel, which originated in France, is broadcast from outside of South Africa’s jurisdiction, said Solomon, leaving the South African authorities with no say in the matter.

How it works

"PSat is totally independent of other satellite channels and you will need a special decoder, smartcard and a satellite dish to view the channel," said Solomon.

"All you have to do is unplug your TopTV decoder and replace it with the PSat decoder."

The decoders can also be looped to avoid cable issues, according to ASI's website. The site also states that PSat and TopTV are not associated.

Other free channels broadcast on the Astra 4A satellite will also be available to viewers who purchase the special decoder.
