Pemba flying fox
I saw this picture on a friends facebook wall. At first I thought it was one of those dubious fake pictures that have been photo shopped to hell and gone but it turns out that it's real. Talk about freaky. The Pemba Flying Fox (Pteropus voeltzkowi) is a species of what is called a megabat (no kidding). It is endemic to the island of Pemba in Tanzania (sho...). Recent conservation success has risen their numbers to between 22,000 and 36,000 from just a few individuals twenty years ago. This beast of a bat has a wing span of over five feet in length. The good news is it eats fruit. It's just a matter of time before Hollywood bring out a horror movie about an out break of flesh eating rabid giant bats. I wonder if you could keep one as a pet. Would be a sure fire way to get rid of unwelcome visitors. You can find out more about these freaky evil looking things by going to NBC NEWS.
